This Conference Proceedings CD-ROM contains both the papers accepted for oral presentation and the posters presented at the 22nd European Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ILASS-Europe 2008), held from 8th to 10th September 2008 in Como, Italy. All the papers accepted by the Scientific Committee are included in electronic format in the enclosed CD. The Conference was organised under the auspices of ILASS-Europe by the Politecnico di Milano and the Università degli Studi di Bergamo.
The support and sponsorship of the Engineering Faculty of the Università degli Studi di Bergamo, Department of Energy and IV Engineering Faculty of Politecnico di Milano and all the other participating and supporting organizations are acknowledged and appreciated. The local organizing Committee and the Committee Members of ILASS-Europe express their grateful thanks to the companies which supported this meeting by participating in the exhibition. The participation in this annual ILASS-Europe Conference has grown sensibly, with respect to previous editions, and this reflects the fact that the scientific community working on the liquid atomisation and spray systems has become steadily larger in recent years. Thus a collective effort and extensive exchange of information is needed to improve our understanding and prediction of the spray and atomisation basic phenomena. This Conference Proceedings CD-ROM contains 122 papers accepted for oral presentation and 21 for poster presentation. A continuous improvement in numerical simulations, modelling, advanced diagnostic tools and experimental techniques is witnessed in the papers submitted to the present Conference.
The ILASS-Europe Conferences, being the only European scientific meetings specifically devoted to atomisation and sprays, offer a unique opportunity to present the state of the art in atomisation research mainly in Europe, even though scientists of all the Continents participate in these events. The annual European Conference plays a key role in realizing these goals and helping to discuss the main issues and to favour new industrial and scientific opportunities. We hope that all participants will appreciate the meeting and the location and the event will allow a fruitful exchange of ideas.
Our introductory remarks would not be complete without thanks to the large number of people who were implied in the preparation and execution of this meeting. This applies especially to the staff of the Università degli Studi di Bergamo and Politecnico di Milano, who in one way or the other were all involved in the preparation and organization over the last year.
